Real advice for US professionals who want to work from anywhere. From someone doing it.
I write about the things that actually matter when you're making the shift to remote work — not the lifestyle fluff like laptops on beaches, but the practical stuff you may overlook until you're already abroad. My articles cover connectivity (which eSIM was easy to install and had good customer support), navigating medical care as an American in Europe, travel insurance claims I've actually filed, and destination guides built around what it's really like to work from there — not just visit. I post on Medium and share everything in my Substack newsletter as well.Note: I love Medium because for one small monthly fee you can read articles from many writers on a diverse range of topics. Most of my articles there are free to Medium members, and a few are free to anyone. But if it's not your thing, you can subscribe to my free newsletter instead.

Colonoscopy Billing in the US Is a Crapshoot: Go To Albania?

I've been working remotely for years — long before "digital nomad" was a buzzword. I've done it as an entrepreneur, as an employee, from an RV, from Airbnbs, and from other people's homes through housesitting.
In 2022, I Ieft a great remote job to return to consulting so I could travel through Europe while working abroad.Over the years, I fielded a lot of "I wish I could do that" comments. Most people stayed wistful. But one close friend took a resource I shared, quit a miserable job, and built a thriving work-from-home business. (We even ended up in Croatia together.)Of course, 2020 also happened, and suddenly remote work didn't seem so foreign. My goal here is simple: share the resources I've actually found useful. I'm a writer by trade, so I'll add my own experiences when they're worth your time — but I'm not here to reinvent the wheel.Since I've been both a remote employee and a location-independent entrepreneur, the tips here cover both worlds.Because here's the truth: remote work and the digital nomad lifestyle aren't for everyone. Working across time zones, building a business from wherever you happen to be — it can be exciting and exhausting in equal measure. But if you feel the pull? You owe it to yourself to try.Sign up for my free newsletter on Substack or follow me on Medium to get my curated mix of resources on remote work, location independence, and life abroad.I've visited 19 countries since that first chaotic trip to Europe, and I'm still going.I hope you'll find this helpful.
